Although cannabis is illegal in Hong Kong, a newly opened café in the city offers customers drinks and dishes that contain parts of the plant as an ingredient. Without breaking the law, Found, the name of the café, provides its clients various selections of biscuits, coffee drinks, beer, and fruit infusions that are laced with cannabinoid which is also termed as CBD, a derivative of the cannabis plant that is reported to provide therapeutic results to its users without the plant’s infamous intoxication effects.
The plant’s tetrahydrocannabinol content, typically called THC, is the psychoactive compound that causes a high in users. Unlike THC, however, CBD aids in the reduction of stress without causing intoxication.
Killian Hussey, a Found customer, mentions that taking CBD helps him stay relaxed. “The coffee is delicious, and I like the effect that the CBD has on me,” Hussey shares. “Cognitively and physically, it kind of helps me get through the aches and pains of a normal day,” he adds.
One bottle of ice cold CBD-laced coffee at Found costs around 80 Hong Kong dollars or $10 and an ice cold can of CBD-infused beer is HK$70 or $9. Successfully doing a soft opening in September, the café is already fully operational this month.
“Hong Kong is actually one of Asia’s most progressive cannabinoid markets. Unlike other parts of the region — Australia, New Zealand, Singapore — it’s actually quite a progressive cannabinoid law in Hong Kong,” asserts Fiachra Mullen, the co-owner of Altum International, an Asian supplier of cannabinoids that also operates Found.
Mullen hopes that the existence of the café and the increasing popularity of CBD get to provide further necessary information dissemination regarding the beneficial effects of CBD, distancing it from the ill effects of the infamous cannabis plant when using it for purely recreational purposes.
The Hong Kong café is permitted to sell food and drinks that contain CBD, as long as these offerings aren’t laced with THC, Mullen further explains.
The illicit importation and sale of cannabis is considered an illegal offense in the city, according to Hong Kong’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance and the government’s Centre for Food and Safety.
The cannabis plant has long been praised and recommended for its capability to cure several diseases. In fact, in several indigenous groups, the cannabis plant has long been part of their medicinal plants list. In several parts of the world, the continuous campaign to legalize the use of cannabis especially for the cure of a number of diseases is a direct response to this efficacious claim. Currently, the use of cannabis, particularly that of CBD, as a prescription medicine is allowed in several areas.
Found café wishes to extend this claim as it prepares to serve more customers with various food and drinks that contain the said ingredient and hopefully allow more people to recognize the beneficial effects of using CBD regularly.
Tips for Handling 4 Major Parental Challenges
Being a parent is rewarding, but it isn’t easy. Parenting a child is a long-term commitment and along the way, you’ll experience many challenges.
Some of those challenges will be harder than others, so here are some tips to help you manage some of the biggest ones.
Reach out for help
As a parent, you’re going to need help periodically, and although it can be difficult to ask, try to get past that and ask anyway. Asking for help with some things will be easier than others.
For instance, if you’re experiencing challenges with breastfeeding and you need advice about pumping or even formula, you might feel frustrated and unsure about talking to others about your situation. Many people don’t understand that breastfeeding isn’t always easy and it’s not just a matter of “just doing it.”
Instead of asking your friends for help, get professional support. For instance, professionals from The Lactation Network will understand your struggles. They’ll actually come to your home for a consultation to find out exactly what you need.
With professional support, you won’t feel so alone.
Learn how to prevent meltdowns
Toddlers will have meltdowns in public, whether you like it or not. However, you can have more control over their meltdowns than you think. Although you can’t prevent them completely, you can sometimes prevent and/or modulate them.
First, you need to understand how a meltdown works. The anatomy of a meltdown isn’t that obvious. On the surface it seems like a child just randomly loses their mind and explodes. However, there’s always a build-up to this point and when you can spot the signs, you can deflect and sometimes even prevent the meltdown.
A meltdown is usually triggered by something specific that seems rather small, like telling your child they can’t walk in the middle of the street or making them wear their shoes in the grocery store. However, just because something small is the trigger doesn’t mean it’s the cause. The cause is usually a build-up of other things like unexpected schedule changes, stress absorbed from adults, and unknown expectations for the situation. You can help prevent and thwart a meltdown by doing the following:
- Don’t run errands with your child unless they’re well-rested and well-fed.
- Keep calm when your child has a meltdown. It’s not intentional, and they don’t understand the concept of humiliation. Instead of getting angry, deflect the situation with humor and empathy. Also, don’t hesitate to negotiate.
- Tell your child what they can expect when you leave the house. Tell them where you’re going and how long you’ll be at each stop. This will help prevent the overwhelm of unexpected situations.
- Reward your child by giving them one-on-one time with you after you’ve completed your outing.
Not all meltdowns can be prevented, but you can certainly use these tactics to lessen the impact and help them get through it easier.
Teach your child to earn expensive clothing
You work hard for your money so it can be shocking when your child asks you to buy expensive, name brand clothing. Clothes naturally get more expensive as time goes on, but it’s different when your child asks you to buy them a $200 pair of jeans or a $75 t-shirt.
Before you say no, remember what it was like to be a kid and want to fit in with your peers. Part of fitting in means wearing certain clothing, and although it seems trivial as an adult, it’s everything to a child.
The best way to handle this situation is to have your child earn the money to pay for the designer clothing they want. Whether they earn the money, save their allowance, or mow neighborhood lawns, make them earn it somehow. You can contribute to the fund, but make them finance the majority of the purchase.
Teaching your child to earn the money to buy something expensive will teach them the value of hard work and it won’t make you the bad guy. If they can’t earn the money, they can’t get the clothing, but that will be on them – not you.
Set and enforce strict rules for your teens
When you set rules for your teen, always follow through with enforcement. For instance, if you don’t want your kids getting into a car with other teens, don’t let them go anywhere without knowing the other child’s parent will be driving. If you can’t get confirmation, don’t let them go with their friends. It only takes one accident to cause devastation.
Don’t be too hard on yourself
Nobody will blame you if you struggle as a parent. When you’re challenged to your core, don’t be too hard on yourself. Just like your kids, you’re only human.
How Gen Z Spends Their Money Could Affect the Future Market
Generation Z is made up of more than 2 billion young people aged 10 to 22. These young people are expected to surpass Millennials’ income and reach over one quarter of global income in the next ten years! Gen Zers are spending their money differently and take a different approach when choosing what brands they support. Looking at these different spending patterns can help to better understand how the market may change in coming years.
Gen Z has an overall $143 billion in annual spending. Most of this spending power goes into things like clothes, shoes, and apps. With already such a large amount of money that Gen Z has available to spend, the generation also has another $120 billion that is contributed by families each year. This money often goes towards bigger things like furniture, household goods, and travel expenses.
Brands that are marketing directly to Gen Z such as clothing brands are finding more success with online marketing. With so many young people spending more time online, brands are using online advertisements on platforms such as TikTok and Youtube. Companies who are customizing their marketing strategies to the new generations’ habits are finding more success and can expect to continue this success as Gen Z’s earning power increases. Asphalt: The Importance of Versatility in Environmental Efforts
Sustainability is the name of the game as we as a society move towards a more green way of living. One of the most effective ways to maintain this sustainability is to turn to recyclable materials. Asphalt is considered one of the most useful and sustainable recycled materials, and was actually named the most recycled material on the planet in 2021. Also referred to as bitumen and made of a mix of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, and hydrogen, asphalt is mainly used for roadways, waterproofing surfaces, parking lots, and roof shingles. It has become one of the most prominent building materials in the United States in recent years, and is considered a 100% renewable construction resource.
In order to understand the asphalt economy, one must understand the circular life cycle of bitumen. As asphalt reaches the end of its lifecycle, it is picked up by a company that extracts the usable material from the waste. That usable material is then resold to providers for a number of different projects and uses. This method is very effective, as nearly 100% of all asphalt pavement is recovered annually. In addition to asphalt being very easy to recycle, it also helps to prevent CO2 from entering the atmosphere, saves taxpayers billions of dollars, and cuts production costs of many large paving projects across the country. Today, the asphalt recovery market is a $7.1 billion dollar industry, with only more sales expected to come in the near future. From roads to roofing, asphalt recycling is a key player in both the present and future of environmental efforts in the United States.
