Eating right, losing weight and being healthy all the time is hard, very hard. Especially if you’re just relying on nothing but your willpower alone. Someone brings cupcakes to the office and you just stare at them angrily, telling yourself that you will not indulge yourself. Repeating mantra after mantra over and over again trying anything you can to keep you from those sweet, delectable treats. But midway through your thirteenth mantra you realize that you’ve eaten eight cupcakes and washed it down with a 32oz. soda.
Relying on nothing but willpower is an almost impossible task when it comes to reaching your weight loss goals, but there is an easier way. Here are some strategies that will help you lose weight quickly so you can succeed without having to rely on your wishy-washy willpower.
Stay Away From Junk Food
The best way to not eat junk food is to not have junk food around. If you surround yourself with healthy snacks then you have no choice but to eat healthily. It’s easy to hit the store and buy yourself a treat because in your head the future you has perfect willpower and will be able to give yourself a tasty treat only when the perfect moment arises. But be real with yourself, if you buy a carton of ice cream, odds are you’re going to scarf it down on the ride home. So control the environments you can by keeping the snacks healthy around your home and your office.
Think About Something Else
Even if you keep your house healthy and you remove all the junky snacks around your desk, you’re still going to find some temptations lying around. If you happen across some donuts or cookies or something don’t just try to stare at them and think about how you’re not going to eat them. When you do that, you’re most likely going to start scarfing. Instead, go distract yourself with something else. Think about something fulfilling and exciting like your favorite TV show or an upcoming trip you’re going to take. Plan what you will distract yourself with at the start of the day so when the temptations arise you already know immediately where to go to keep your mind off the sweet, sweet snacks.
Don’t Fight The Urges
Rather than fighting the urges and trying to bury your desires deep down inside of you, try just accepting them. Feel the feeling and try your best to understand it. Odds are, if you do that you will realize that you are not actually hungry, but you are actually just eating because you are compelled to do so. If you face actual hunger then don’t starve yourself, but if you’re just tempted to snack on something unhealthy and a healthy option doesn’t seem like a good option then you probably aren’t really hungry, you’re just experiencing a craving.
Stop!
If you find yourself indulging don’t take the “just this once” approach. Stop yourself immediately and work on something else. Pretty soon you will be able to break free from the habit of slamming waist-expanding snacks and you will take a big step forward in accomplishing your weight loss goals.
