Freezer Hacks You Didn’t Know You Needed

No matter how fresh and organic you like to keep things in the kitchen, everyone needs a freezer. At the very least so you can keep all that delicious ice cream! But it’s also great for freezing fruit, keeping meat from going bad, and everything in between.

Well, you might be surprised to learn that there are actually a lot of other things you can do with your freezer. And some of them are just plain game changers. So check out these little-known freezer hacks and get ready to start doing all of them!

If you’re a candle lover, you know how expensive they can be, and how short their lifespan can be. But did you know if you put the candle in the freezer after using it you can extend its life? When a candle is cold the wax will actually take longer to burn. So you can enjoy your favorite scents for longer than ever imagined!

If you’re anything like me, you’ve done it a hundred times. You put your letter or your rent check neatly in an envelope, licked the sticky stuff and sealed it, only to realize you forgot something and need to reopen it. Well, no need to tear it open and ruin the envelope. Just put it in a closed ziplock bag and put in the freezer overnight. By the next day, you should be able to open it with a letter opener (carefully) while saving the envelope!

There’s no getting around it, at one point or another your shoes are going to stink. It’s nobodies fault and it’s nothing to be ashamed of, but we’d all love it if our shoes didn’t stink. Well, putting those stinky shoes in the freezer overnight can actually kill most odor-causing bacteria! And if they’re especially stinky, just throw some baking soda in there as well and leave them for a couple days. That is if your family or roommates will let you!

We’ve all got that pair of favorite jeans. We’ve had them for years and now they fit just right and we’d wear them every day if we could. But over time jeans can get dirty and smelly. And throwing them in the wash can actually make them fade and eventually fall apart. So if you want to clean your jeans without shortening their lifespan, just throw them in the freezer! Similar to cleaning your shoes, the freezing temperatures will kill off any living organisms on the pants.

This is genius! I can’t believe I never thought of this on my own. I love iced coffee but unless I drink it really fast it’s always ruined by the end because the ice has melted and it’s watered down. But… if you actually make your ice from coffee… that iced coffee will be delicious right to the last sip! Brilliant.

As hard as we try to put on sunscreen whenever we’re out in the sun, it’s still easy to forget and get sunburned. And while aloe vera is one of the best ways to relieve a sunburn, frozen aloe vera can be even better! The aloe vera does it’s normal soothing and cooling job, while the iciness will help numb the pain from a bad burn. All you have to do is extract the aloe vera from the plant and put it in an ice tray to freeze it.
